After seeing a forum post on the LinkedIn group for Music Journalists requesting new writers, I got in touch with editor Adrienne Law. I write album, single and gig reviews for the website.
One Media Group [Staffordshire University]
September 2013 to May 2014
Online News Editor
I joined the university's media group in my first year as part of the news team, who put out a show on the student radio, One Media Radio, once a week. They also have a website that runs alongside that and, in my third year, I was promoted to Online News Editor. Roles include getting the copy on the website, editing it so it is publishable, and thinking of news ideas for the website.

Part-time Shorthand Lecturer
After passing an NCTJ 100wpm Teeline Shorthand exam with 100% accuracy in my first year after only 9 months of learning, I was asked to take the place of a teacher who left unexpectedly at the beginning of my second year and teach around 10 Masters students. On returning in my third year, I was asked to teach a group of 30 first-year students after my success with the Masters students.

News Reporter
It was a requirement of my degree to work as a full-time news reporter for the university-run news outlet StaffsLive. It was an insight into what working as part of a real-life news team would be like.

Social Media Ambassador
Working to promote the new operating system - Windows 8 - specifically to the student population before, during and after its release through the use of social media.
GLAMOUR.com
August to September 2013
Intern
My main role at GLAMOUR.com was helping to produce e-newsletters twice a day using the company’s CMS – Umbraco system. It often required me to look into the HTML and fix it from there. Highlights included interviewing Mollie King from The Saturdays and helping to put up a daily blog during the New York and London Fashion Weeks.

June 2013 [1 week]

A week at one of the most prestigious and well-known music magazines in the UK was an experience that showed me I was definitely pursuing the right career by going into music journalism.
